What Can You Put On A Sofa Table?

Struggling to decorate a table behind a sofa? Become 4 different ways to manner your sofa tabular array right hither!

When we moved into our new firm last year, the living room was the room I was most concerned about decorating. We had purchased a sectional sofa for our old house, but it took so long to arrive that we had it delivered to a new house. This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

Thankfully I dear the new sectional in this room. (I brought a measuring tape to the business firm showing to brand sure it would fit). And I was pleasantly surprised that my dear Everett console tabular array fit perfectly behind information technology! I love our new cozy living room layout, which is a less open infinite than we had before.

But the new challenge for me was how to style the console table behind the sofa and in the center of the room. It needed to be functional (with lamps for reading) and beautiful (duh!) and non experience like it was a wall in the middle of the living room.

I've pretty much had it styled one way since I prepare it up, but I decided to play around with some other styles and found 3 new means to style it, also! Then, I thought I'd share them with you, in instance you too have a panel tabular array backside a sofa, likewise! These home decoration ideas will also work for any flat service!

And so, what practice you lot do differently when a decorating a table than when information technology's pushed up to a wall? Well, for ane, you won't want to fill the table with a bunch of actually tall decor because and then you won't be able to encounter over it.

So, keep that in mind as you're styling these. For instance, when I styled this console table against a wall in my one-time firm, I put a big slice of art in the middle. But that won't work in this situation.

How to Mode a Behind the Couch Tabular array

While each mode is slightly varied, I like to include at least one of each of these elements in my decor when I'm decorating any horizontal space.

  1. Books – for entertaining and top
  2. Organic shapes – for interest (animal figurines or items from nature)
  3. Greenery (real or faux, I normally use imitation plants if nosotros're existence honest) – to exhale some life into my decor
  4. Tray or console handbasket – for corralling items or blankets and pillows
  5. Lamp – for the cozy factor!

Console Table #1: The Symmetrical Sofa Table with 2 Lamps & 2 Baskets

Styling things symmetrically is probably my favorite style to decorate, but it's not always the most pleasing to my eye. I but discover it easy. So, this formula is the one I've used the most on our panel table behind the couch.

Information technology includes my favorite 2 lamps on either side of the table, so a brusk stack of books and decor accompaniment in the middle. The picayune brass turtle on elevation of the books brings in the organic element.

The faux constitute to the right side and the blanket coming over the basket edge on the bottom left side give enough asymmetry to feel a little more interesting and less "evidently Jane."

And then on the bottom, I have 2 of my very favorite console baskets. This is a very simple, yet classic fashion and we apply these lamps every evening when the lord's day goes down to give a cozy vibe to our living room.

Console Table #2: Asymmetrical Sofa Table Decor with i Lamp & 2 Baskets

Asymmetrical Decor on a Sofa Table

In this look, I kept the two baskets on the bottom, but took abroad 1 of the lamps. Information technology still needed to feel balanced with something tall(ish) on the correct side, so I moved the stack of books under my faux spider establish to give it some height.

Then I added an organic shape via this dried grapewood branch. It non but brings in interest, but is low enough to see over.

I think I like this wait the best, merely we love having both lamps on the tabular array for lighting. But if I were to alter our current wait, I'd change it to this! 😊

Style #iii: Asymmetrical Decor with 1 Lamp and one Basket

I took one of the baskets away and added some decor underneath. I loved how this tray brought these 3 items on the bottom left together.

The limestone knot decor at the bottom gives the organic interest. And the bowl on the top of the table can serve equally a corral spot for keys or remote controls. If your panel tabular array is near a door, you may need the basin for everyday items.

See how I balanced it out past putting the large lamp on i side and the big basket on the lesser of the other side? Information technology would accept looked funny if both larger items had been only on one side.

Style #iv: Asymmetrical Style with one Lamp

Console Table without baskets

If you don't need or want baskets, I wanted to share a style to decorate your panel table without them! I also put a tray on the acme for remote control corralling if y'all need that, also.

Moving the lamp to the other side of the tabular array allows for a more articulate sight line, besides! Exercise whatever works all-time in your living room design.

Styled Sofa Table Behind a Couch

I hope these dissimilar stylings helped you detect a fashion to decorate your behind a sofa table. I but went around my house and collected a agglomeration of items and moved them effectually until they looked skilful. And so, become creative and utilise items in your dwelling house, too!
